Canopus has recently identified a novel, naturally occurring antibacterial agent. This compound is itself a gram-positive actinomycete which was screened for biological activity, in particular antimicrobial activity.
This compound has demonstrated efficacy against both Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli. The next step is to evaluate the agent against a wider range of human pathogens, Canopus fully expect this agent to be valuable in the search for new, natural antibacterial products.
